There is a window in the Orange County year that almost nobody uses on purpose, and it runs from late September to the middle of October. Ask any cleaning company when their diary is busiest and they will tell you December. Ask when a deep clean actually gets you the most for your money, and the honest answer is now.
Here is why, and it has nothing to do with wanting to fill our October calendar.
The Dust Arrives Before the Guests Do
Santa Ana season starts in September and runs through December. Those winds pull dry inland air across the county and deposit a fine mineral dust on everything — worst in Yorba Linda, Anaheim Hills and anywhere near a canyon mouth, but nowhere is exempt.
What most people do is wait until the week before Thanksgiving, then book a deep clean and wonder why the house looks dusty again by the time everyone arrives. The dust did not come back because the clean was bad. It came back because three months of accumulation was removed and the wind kept blowing.
Deep clean at the start of the season and you are maintaining a clean house through it. Deep clean at the end and you are fighting it.
What Actually Builds Up Over Summer
Summer in Orange County means doors open, kids home, pools in use, and a steady traffic of everything outside coming inside. By late September a home has accumulated a specific set of things that a regular visit does not reach:
- Sunscreen and pool chemical residue on the floor near patio doors — it goes slightly tacky and holds dust
- Grease film in the kitchen from three months of cooking with the windows shut and the air conditioning running
- Dust in the air return vents, loaded from a summer of constant HVAC use
- Ceiling fan blades, which have been running daily since June and are usually the dirtiest surface in the house
- The tops of everything — cabinets, door frames, picture frames — where dust settles and nobody looks
None of these are visible from standing height. All of them are what makes a house feel stale rather than look dirty.
The Practical Argument: Availability
This is the part nobody says out loud. In the second half of November and through December, every cleaning company in Orange County is booked. You are choosing from whoever has a slot, not whoever does the work you want, and you are booking three weeks ahead for a specific date you cannot move.
In early October you can have the date you want, the time you want, and enough hours to do the job properly rather than to a deadline. It is the same work at a calmer pace, and the difference shows.
What a Deep Clean Covers That a Regular Visit Does Not
Worth being precise about this, because the terms get used loosely.
A regular visit maintains what is already clean: surfaces, floors, bathrooms, kitchen, the things that get used daily.
A deep clean resets the baseline. It reaches inside the oven and the fridge, inside cabinets, behind and under appliances where they can be moved safely, the interior of windows and their tracks, baseboards, door frames, light fixtures, fan blades, vent covers and the tops of everything. It is the accumulated work of months, not the maintenance of a week.
Most homes need one deep clean and then regular visits. Very few need repeated deep cleans, and any company selling you one every quarter is selling you something you do not need.
What It Costs
Our deep clean starts at $249 for the first two hours, then $100 for each additional hour. A typical three-bedroom home in Orange or Tustin runs three to four hours. Larger homes in Yorba Linda, North Tustin or Anaheim Hills usually take most of a day, and we tell you the expected total before we start — not after.
Regular visits after that start at $120. Homes that have had a proper reset are genuinely cheaper to maintain, which is the whole argument for doing it in the right order.
Nothing is charged when you book. We agree the price with you first and you pay once the work is done — cash, Venmo, Zelle, check or card.
If You Only Do One Thing
Change your HVAC filter at the start of October. It costs a few dollars, takes five minutes, and during Santa Ana season it makes a bigger difference to how much dust settles in your house than anything else you can do yourself.
Then, if the house needs a reset before the holidays, book it now while the calendar is open rather than in the third week of November when it is not.
